How to Speed Up the Boot Time and Shutdown Time
  • Execute a Boot Defragment to order your boot files, and save it one next to the other that will run faster everytime it boots. Boot Defragment must be running by defaut. To verify it go to Regedit and select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Dfrg\ BootOptimizerFunction and set the Enable to Y. Reboot the PC to make it active.
  • Make your BIOS boot faster by hardware.
    Startup your computer by pressing the Bios Setup Key, ussualy is the Delete, F1, F2 or F10 key.
  • Quick Power On Self Test (POST) Enabling this will make a quick POST every time it boots.
  • Boot Up Floppy Seek. Disable this option to save some seconds everytime it boots.
  • Boot Delay. Turn it off. Extra delay is not need it in most cases
  • Disable XP paging file (pagefile.sys) clear at shutdown.
    It is used to store temporal data and slows down the shutdown. Go to registry edit and pick HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ SYSTEM/ CurrentControlSet/ Control/ Session Manager/ Memory Management and set the ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0 (zero).A
    Turn Off the services not being used. Windows XP have too many services working for default for several configuration. You can go to control panel > Services and disable or set to Manual Start the services not required. -
